Beyond the Polls: Obalaja Community Demands Dividends of Democracy After Decades of Neglect

THE PROMISES!

As a concerned and passionate citizen of Obalaja Community, I wish to use this medium to sincerely appreciate the political leaders in Ipokia Local Government, Ogun West, and beyond for their resilience and commitment toward the development of Ipokia Local Government.

This epistle is specifically about Obalaja Community—a community with a population of over 3,000 residents, located in Tube Ward, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

For decades, Obalaja Community has suffered neglect in terms of developmental projects from relevant authorities, particularly politicians. 

Historically, the community only receives visits during election periods, after which little or nothing is heard or seen in terms of development.

However, this narrative began to change in 2025 when the Right Honourable Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, Member representing Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, facilitated the construction of a Primary Health Centre in Obalaja, which is currently ongoing. For this laudable intervention, we are sincerely grateful, sir.

Through continuous efforts to communicate the challenges facing the community to relevant authorities—such as our Distinguished Senator, Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) representing Ogun West Senatorial District; the able and performing member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Oyedele-Citiside; the Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh; and other notable political leaders within and outside Ipokia Local Government—several promises were made to revamp Obalaja Community and give it a befitting outlook.

It is with deep passion and a sincere appeal that I call on our leaders—Distinguished Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), Hon. Bisi Oyedele-Citiside, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, and other well-meaning leaders—to kindly come to the aid of Obalaja Community by facilitating more developmental projects.

The major needs of the community at this time include:Electricity,
Good and motorable roads,Structures for the Obalaja night market, a functional town hall and other essential social amenities.

We eagerly look forward to the fulfillment of the promises made, in order to dispel the popular notion that politicians only make promises without fulfilling them.

The people of Obalaja Community are joyfully expectant of the dividends of democracy under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ISEYA mantra of our Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun.
