Ogun West Youths Unite: The Strategic Push for 2027 Governorship Begins
Youth stakeholders from the Ogun West Senatorial District have thrown their collective weight behind a consensus-driven bid to wrest the state's governorship for the district in 2027, signalling a new chapter of coordinated political action in one of Ogun State's most historically significant zones.
The declaration emerged from a stakeholders' engagement and townhall meeting convened by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun West chapter, under the stewardship of its State Vice Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Damilola Olorunjubelo. Held on March 22, 2026, at the Recreation Innovation Hub, Recreation Club, Ilaro, the forum drew youth leaders, representatives of youth-based organisations, and key district stakeholders for a frank deliberation on Ogun West's political future.
In a communiqué issued at the close of proceedings, participants spoke with one voice on the imperative of unity, issuing a pointed warning against internal dissonance and divisive tendencies capable of undermining the district's collective ambition.
The Consensus Imperative
Central to the forum's resolutions was an unambiguous commitment to a consensus-based approach to the 2027 governorship race, one anchored on the emergence of a broadly acceptable candidate from within Ogun West. The youths argued, with considerable force, that such cohesion is indispensable to enhancing the district's bargaining power within the wider architecture of Ogun State politics.
Deliberations equally underscored the strategic importance of projecting a shared identity that bridges the Yewa and Awori constituencies of the district. Inclusive messaging, participants noted, would not only broaden support but also dismantle lingering sentiments of marginalisation that have historically complicated the district's political aspirations.
Grassroots Mobilisation and Alliance Building
The gathering charged youth leaders to deepen engagement with political actors — party executives, declared and prospective aspirants, and influential power brokers across Ogun State and the national political space, with the expressed aim of forging alliances capable of delivering a definitive outcome.
Beyond political backrooms, the forum pressed for robust grassroots mobilisation, calling on young people to assume active roles in the democratic process. Advocacy efforts, participants resolved, must extend to other senatorial districts to cultivate wider buy-in for the Ogun West agenda.
Traditional rulers and community leaders were also recognised as pivotal to the strategy, with the meeting affirming that their influence on grassroots opinion and political direction remains an asset too significant to overlook.
Discipline, Responsibility, and the Social Media Question
Reaffirming its institutional neutrality, NYCN Ogun West declared that it would remain non-partisan as a body while creating space for individual members to pursue political engagement freely, provided such activities do not fracture collective unity.
On the question of digital communication, the youths struck a note of caution, urging members to exercise responsibility on social media platforms and to resist the temptation to deploy them as instruments of division. The emphasis, they insisted, must remain on promoting peace, factual information, and the district's legitimate political objectives.
A Coordinated Action Plan
To translate resolutions into results, stakeholders adopted a structured action plan encompassing sustained advocacy, stakeholder consultations, community sensitisation, and peaceful public engagements spanning all five local government areas of Ogun West.
The council also acknowledged the development strides of the Ogun State Government under Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, while restating that equitable power rotation remains a cornerstone of long-term political stability and inclusive governance in the state.
The forum closed on a note of firm resolve, with participants committing to remain focused, disciplined, and united in the pursuit of what they collectively described as the Ogun West Governorship Agenda.
Reflecting the inclusive spirit of the exercise, the communiqué drafting committee drew its members from all five local government areas of the district, a deliberate signal that the consensus reached on the day runs deep, and wide.
