SAFER WATERWAYS: Ipokia LG Unveils New Boat Ambulance at Akere Jetty

IPOKIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONDUCTS INSPECTION AND HANDING OVER OF DONATED BOAT AMBULANCE AT AKERE JETTY, MAUN WARD 1

We visited Akere Jetty in Maun Ward 1 for the inspection and formal handing over of a newly donated boat ambulance provided by United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, for the benefit of Ipokia Local Government and adjoining riverine areas.

The boat ambulance, which was officially received on Thursday, 18th December 2025, was donated to the Ipokia Local Government Health Authority to support emergency rescue services across the riverine communities within Ipokia Local Government. It will be deployed for prompt emergency response, rescue operations, and the transportation of persons in need of urgent medical attention across waterways at all times.
During the visit, an official letter was presented to the Marine Police at Akere Jetty, entrusting them with the safe custody of the ambulance boat. The visit also provided an opportunity to inspect the vessel and ensure proper documentation and preservation under the supervision of the appropriate security authority.

We extend our profound appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun CON, for his continuous investment in and commitment to strengthening the health sector of the Gateway State. This remarkable intervention represents another significant milestone in improving healthcare delivery in Ogun State, particularly within riverine communities, ensuring timely access to medical care during emergencies.
While at the Jetty, officers of the Marine Police expressed their readiness to continue safeguarding government property and ensuring safety across the waterways. They also highlighted certain needs required to enhance their working environment and ensure the constant readiness of the boat ambulance. In response, the Executive Chairman assured them that their requests would be duly considered, and matters beyond his immediate authority would be appropriately communicated to higher authorities.

In the entourage of the Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Olufunmilayo Okewole; the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Olushola Johnson Babajide; the Supervisor for Works and Housing, Hon.
