Youth Voices Amplified at Ogun West MTEF and 2025 Budget Meeting

Yesterday, the National Youth Council of Nigeria made a compelling presence at the Ogun West Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and 2025 Budget Meeting. Led by Comrade Kehinde Damilola Olorunjubelo, our passionate youth leaders articulated the pressing need for empowerment programs designed for our younger generation.

Hon. Dapo Okubadejo, Chief Economic Adviser to Ogun state government, representing Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, shared inspiring insights on the government's commitment to youth empowerment and the resources available to support their success.

During the meeting, our State Publicity Secretary, Com. Fatai Yinus, brought attention to several key areas needing immediate support. These include the completion of Ogun State Polytechnic, renovation of local sports facilities, and increased funding for youth-centered initiatives. He stressfully noted that empowering our youth is essential for Ogun State's growth, urging the government to prioritize initiatives that nurture leadership and entrepreneurship among young people.

Com. Yinus also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Governor for appointing our Organizing Secretary as his Personal Assistant on Political Matters. This appointment is a testament to the Governor’s steadfast commitment to our youth, especially as Ogun State becomes the headquarters of the National Youth Council in the Southwest, with our Vice President championing the rights and needs of young people.
In line with the government's initiatives, the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Ogun West has been actively organizing impactful programs, including:
Youth Summit 2025, Youth Skills Acquisition & Empowerment for 300 youths held in August 2025 , Youth Leadership Summit, 2025, Youth Medical Outreach 2024/2025, Environmental Sanitation all across the 5 Local Government of the Senatorial District and Scholarship for 48 indigent Students among others
To further uplift our youth and enhance our communities, we kindly urge the government to consider the following requests:

- Complete the Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia LG.
- Renovate Gateway Stadium in Ilaro.
- Establish a Ministry of Youth to prioritize youth welfare, along with appointing a Commissioner for Youth Affairs within the State Executive.
- Increase youth appointments from Ogun West to ensure our voices are heard in governance.
- Support diverse youth programs in Ogun West.
- Develop a trailer park for Dangote Cement Plant trucks in Ibese to ease transportation challenges and reduce traffic congestion.
- Revive the Youth Recreation Centre in Yewa North, which has been dormant since its construction began in 1989.
- Establish Youth Development Centres in each federal constituency of Ogun West by repurposing abandoned state facilities like the Gateway Hotel in Ado-Odo/Ota.
- Provide waste collection trucks for each local government to maintain cleanliness in our markets.

This meeting marked an important milestone in strengthening the bond between the youth council and government officials. Through open dialogue, both parties reaffirmed their dedication to advancing Ogun State’s development and ensuring the well-being of its youth.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria remains committed to amplifying youth voices, advocating for inclusive governance, and striving to ensure every young person in Ogun State has the opportunity to thrive.

Signed,
Comrade Samuel Adéyemí Kòjékú
State Organizing Secretary (Ogun West)
National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State.
