NYCN-NDLEA PARTNERS TO LAUNCH YOUTHS-AGAINST ILLICIT DRUGS (Y-AIDs) CAMPAIGN
The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), under the direction of His Youthfulness Amb Babangida Isah onomisi held a strategic engagement with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday 30th, oct 2025 at the NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja.
The meeting, convened by Mr. Otumba Lanre Iphinmisho MFR, Ambassador of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), provided a platform for both institutions to explore areas of collaboration in strengthening youth participation in the national campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
During the engagement, the NYCN President Babangida formally proposed a partnership with the NDLEA to launch and implement the “Youth Against Illicit Drugs (Y-AID) Campaign”, a national advocacy initiative designed to mobilize young people toward drug prevention, rehabilitation awareness, and community sensitization across Nigeria.
The NDLEA welcomed the proposal and expressed readiness to collaborate closely with the NYCN in the nationwide execution of the campaign. Both parties agreed that the initiative will operate in synergy with the existing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) framework to ensure consistency, coordination, and long-term sustainability.
It was also agreed that a joint NYCN–NDLEA implementation committee will be established to design a roadmap for the campaign, focusing on youth mobilization, public engagement, and media advocacy. In addition, NDLEA will provide capacity-building support for youth leaders to serve as Youth Anti-Drug Ambassadors in their respective communities.
Both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuous public enlightenment, community outreach, and rehabilitation support for victims of drug abuse, while promoting positive values and leadership among young Nigerians.
In his remarks, Mr. Otumba Lanre Iphinmisho, the WADA Ambassador, commended the NYCN for initiating the youth-led anti-drug campaign, noting that the effort represents a major step toward building a responsible and drug-free generation.
The NYCN leadership expressed appreciation to the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), for his unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse and for supporting youth participation in national advocacy efforts.
The meeting concluded with a strong pledge of collaboration and partnership between the NYCN, NDLEA, and the WADA Secretariat toward the successful launch of the Youth Against Illicit Drugs Campaign nationwide.
