It was a remarkable day for the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ipokia Local Government Branch, as the Executive Chairman of the local government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh joined members of the council for their monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ilashe community.

The sanitation, part of NYCN’s regular community service initiative, took a special turn as the Chairman made a surprise appearance, offering words of encouragement and actively participating in the clean-up efforts.

Addressing the youth during the exercise, Hon. Avoseh commended NYCN for their commitment to community development and praised the leadership for its impactful initiatives. He emphasized that the youth of Ipokia are setting a positive example through service and discipline.
> “I have been following the activities of this council, and I must say I am proud,” he said. “You have demonstrated that the youth of Ipokia are not involved in social vices but are contributing meaningfully to our communities.”

The Chairman urged the youth to continue their good work, while also emphasizing the importance of personal advancement. He encouraged them to pursue academic and professional development alongside community service.

“While serving your community, never neglect your personal goals. Work on your certificates and qualifications. When opportunities arise, you should be prepared to seize them,” he advised.

To demonstrate his commitment, the Chairman personally joined in cleaning the garage and market areas of Ilashe, drawing admiration from both residents and volunteers.
He also used the occasion to highlight the urgent need for youth sensitization on drug abuse. He noted that ongoing awareness campaigns and peer education are crucial in tackling the menace of substance misuse among young people.

Speaking on behalf of NYCN, the Coordinator, Comrade Gbenasu Johnson, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Chairman’s presence and encouragement.

> “Your presence here today is more than a visit — it’s a powerful message of support. We are truly honored and motivated by your gesture,” the Coordinator said, adding that the youth council looks forward to continued collaboration with the local government.
